The gifts I receive from sitting with a trained spiritual director myself:
As a part of my Rhythm & Rule of Life, I have been sitting with a spiritual director for an hour, once a month, since 2000. It has been such a gift to be listened to by someone who is patiently holding safe space, someone waiting for the presence of the holy to fill that space, someone waiting for me to speak long enough that I can hear the wisdom of my own voice, someone who helps me notice subtle spiritual movements and themes in my sharing, someone who loves me unconditionally.
These are just some of the gifts of sitting with a trained spiritual director I have experienced as a directee. My dearest hope and most fervent prayer is that those who sit with me as their spiritual director feel accepted just as they are, feel invited into safe space, and regardless of what I offer that they receive what they need.

Rev. Cindy Serio studied at the Louisiana United Methodist Academy for Spiritual Leadership Track for Spiritual Direction with Rev. Wendy J. Miller, professor/emeritus of Eastern Mennonite University, from 2001-2003, served as small group supervisor 2008-2014 and was Contemplative Worship Leader and presenter/instructor in the program 2014-2016. She also served and studied with Rev . Miller while coordinating "Witnessing the Living Flame" Supervision Training Program 2015-2017. Cindy served as board member and presenter for the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church Charis Spiritual Director Training Program from 2006 to 2019. Cindy served in the Alabama-West Florida Conference Sacred Space Spiritual Direction Program as Year 3 Instructor and Practicum Coordinator 2017-2020.
Cindy has been working with The Gathered Community of Spiritual Directors (TGC) since 2012, leading the group in days of renewal, contemplative retreats, supervision, and making referrals for spiritual direction. She was instrumental in establishing The Gathered Community as a 501c3 nonprofit organization in 2019 and served as its Board President and Executive Director from 2019-2023 and Vice-President in 2024 as she helped the board. make the transition. She continues to serve be a part of the community and serves on the Extended Leadership Team.
Cindy is a covenant spiritual director in The Gathered Community and is available for referral. All TGC covenant spiritual directors are trained in various programs and covenant with one another to follow the ethical guidelines of Spiritual Directors International (SDI). We welcome ALL trained spiritual directors from any location or program to join in our online community.

The ministry of spiritual direction can be understood as the meeting of two or more people whose desire is to prayerfully listen for the movements of the Holy Spirit in all areas of a person’s life.
